Shop at major retailers, like walmart.com, amazon.com or buy.com. You're guaranteed to be as safe as you possibly can be while shopping on those website.
If you're on a website and you're not sure whether or not it's secured, you can look for the Padlock icon in your browser. Also, check the URL that you're browsing. It should have "https://" in front of it to identify that it is a secured website. Also, secured websites have certificates verifying if it's secured or not. You can normally click on them for more information.
